After the decision has been made to commission Lynda to paint a portrait, the artist
travels to the client’s location. This provides the opportunity to become acquainted with the subject in his /her own environment.
Meeting in a relaxed manner, the expectations for the portrait and various key elements are discussed. The objective being to portray an excellent likeness and to have the portrait express the personality and character of the client along with the desired tone of the portrait.
Medium and size, formal or informal, clothing, background, lighting, pose, expression
and where the painting will be hung, are all considered.
A time line is set out and agreed upon, regarding additional meetings, sittings from life when possible, and a completion date.
A photographic session is used to explore the elements discussed. This may require a
few clothing changes, various poses, backgrounds and lighting. Lynda reviews the
photographs narrowing the choices to those that will make the most effective portrait.
Upon meeting again the final decision re expression and details is made. This can be
based on one or more photographs and at this time a few more reference photos may be
required. In addition the artist makes note of skin tone, eye and hair colour and other key elements.
Returning to her Saskatchewan studio, the portrait painting begins its life and starts to take form. As the painting unfolds the reference photos act as a guide. If possible sittings from life are scheduled in. However, whether from the photographic references or combined with sittings it is brought to completion. The portrait is then delivered to the client at which time some adjustments may be made with a final sitting.
The commission is considered complete when all agree and are satisfied with the finished work.
Posthumous portraits can be painted after satisfactory review of reference photographs
Lynda is happy to assist with framing options for the finished portrait.
All travel shipping and framing are in addition to the agreed upon price
of the painting.
